Dundee 48HFP 2012 Award Winners!

Date: (19/10/2012)

In August 2012, a brand new annual Film Project came to Dundee – offering filmmakers of all
abilities a unique opportunity to showcase their talents to the world. The 48 Hour Film Project
(48HFP) is the oldest and largest timed film competition in the world. Launched in Washington,
DC in 2001, and has since expanded to 125 cities worldwide, challenging more than 50,000
people making more than 4,000 films as part of the 2012 competition.

The uniquely structured competition sees teams given a genre, character, line of dialogue
and a prop; and just 48 Hours to write, produce and score a short film. Also, as 2012 is
the first time Dundee has hosted the Project, films had to include a famous Dundee
landmark. With assistance from TayScreen, the screen commission for Dundee City Council,
Fife and Tayside, teams engaged with a variety of Dundee organisations and gave a creative
nod to our vibrant city through their films.

The inaugural 48HFP was a welcome addition to the Dundee creative scene, mobilising 12 teams,
with over 80 cast & crewbeing directly involved in making the films. The completed films
were then premiered to over 200 film fans at Dundee's very own Council run cinema, The Steps
Theatre situated within the Central Library in the Wellgate Centre.

Bringing the 48HFP to Dundee was the dream of local filmmaker Colin McQuillen, of
TwoThumbsFresh Productions. Colin recently told Dundee.com “The 48HFP is already huge
in across 6 continents, in cities like Beijing and Los Angeles - so to launch this in
Dundee is an incredibly exciting opportunity for filmmakers. We're already looking forward
to 2013!”

2012 Dundee 48 Hour Film Project Best Film Award Winner:
“GoodNews BurningFire: The Musical” by Little Earth Productions

This year's overall 'Best Film' winner was Little Earth Productions, with their snappily titled
“GoodNews BurningFire: The Musical”. Incredibly, this 'Best Film of Dundee' not only wins a
Trophy but will progress to Hollywood's Filmapalooza Film Festival in 2013. Filmapalooza
is an incredible opportunity with several days of intense screenings, parties and
networking with winners from cities all around the world. In addition, the top 12 films
globally will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner. See below for a
full list of the winning films, and links to some of the films online.

In 2013, Dundee will again host a 48 Hour Film Project and are seeking more filmmakers
and local sponsorships to support it.

To find out more, please visit: http://www.48hourfilm.com/dundee,
and follow @TheDundee48 on Twitter and Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/TheDundee48.

2012 Award Winners:

Best Film
"GoodNewsBurningFire: The Musical" by Little Earth Productions

Runner Up for Best Film
"The Life Coach" by August Pictures

Best Writing
"GoodNewsBurningFire: The Musical" by Little Earth Productions

Best Directing
"The Life Coach" by August Pictures

Best Cinematography
"Our Father" by SOS

Best Use of Character
"The Life Coach" by August Pictures

Best Use of Prop
"Elle" by The Thrilling Team

Best Use of Line
"The Life Coach" by August Pictures

Best Graphics
"Lioness" by Lost Weekend

Best Musical Score
"Life for Beginners" by Deciduous Productions

Best Editing
"Life for Beginners" by Deciduous Productions

Best Actor
Annie Bottoms for 'The Life Coach' by August Pictures

Links:
Little Earth Productions - http://youtu.be/HTguc7LC40s?hd=1
August Pictures - http://youtu.be/9KSjE-l3USQ
The Thrilling Team - http://youtu.be/wKyJrbcetwU
SoS - http://youtu.be/BkC3pNRWicQ?hd=1

48HFP City Page: http://www.48hourfilm.com/dundee
Twitter: www.twitter.com/TheDundee48
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/TheDundee48

Follow TayScreen on Facebook and Twitter for regular news and updates.
